Logistics Center for Central Europe
Planning and Implementation
Providing the sports world with the best possible products that improve athletic performance and contribute to keeping the body and mind healthy is the mission of Asics, the fifth largest sporting goods company in the world. In the running footwear market, Asics is the clear market leader in Europe with 40% of the market, which is mainly due to the revolutionary technical innovations designed in its own research and development center in Kobe/Japan. In total, Asics offers its customers over 300,000 products, created in direct dialog with athletes and distributed worldwide.
To satisfy the growing demand for Asics products, the European Headquarters assigned TransCare with the planning, conception and implementation of a distribution center for Central Europe. The Distribution Center (DC), that went into operation 20 months later, is designed to easily handle both the expected growth rates in volumes and in the number of items.
At the same time, the specific logistic costs per SKU were to be reduced. Due to the strong seasonality at Asics and the high affinity for parcels, the decision was made in favor of partial automation. While modern sortation technology is used in the receiving department and in the dispatch areas, the rest of the warehouse is operated manually. This ensures high flexibility of the system while efficiently handling small delivery volumes. In addition, the layout of the logistics areas was optimized so that a direct material flow is guaranteed.
Increase of volume with simultaneous reduction of logistics costs.
