Presentation of Überherrn Terminal Study

In the middle of the twentieth century, the rail track between Völklingen and Thionville constituted an important link between Germany and France. Starting in the 1990s, the tracks were partly abandoned. With support by the European Regional Development Fund (Interreg IV-A), TransCare has now delivered approaches towards a reactivation of the line. The findings from the study were presented in Forbach on September 3, 2015. The starting point could be an intermodal terminal in Überherrn on the premises of Horst Mosolf GmbH & Co. KG, which already uses the remaining German section for rail transport of finished vehicles. This could have a beneficial impact on shippers in the SaarLorLux region. In addition, the approach creates a perspective for cross-border connections in passenger rail traffic.
