InterRail Holding AG is one of the leading service providers for rail based logistics in Europe. Its core competences are the realization of railway transports to, from and within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Asia. Apart from wholistic solutions incl. container provision for bilateral railway transports, InterRail offers value added services like handling the cargo at the gauge changes, storage of goods and support with customs clearance and necessary documentation.
In 2009, the economic and financial crisis hit Russia, InterRail’s core market, with full force. Rail freight traffic dropped by 15%. In addition to this decline, structural and organizational problems had further negative impact on the results of InterRail Holding AG. The task was to identify a sustainable development strategy to return to substantial growth using the Group’s high level of rail expertise in Pan-Eurasian rail freight transport.
After a detailed analysis of market and current status, strategic development approaches were identified and a detailed business plan was drawn up. Significant savings potentials were realized and a future-oriented organizational structure with a strong focus on sales and active market development was defined. The development strategy was accepted by the entire management and the added value of TransCare’s industry network was recognized.
